This area was doing well with Dreams and Le Sand on the edge of Nettle Bay and Mario Bistrot on the canal. It was one the finest restaurants on the island, but it moved to the Lowlands. Irma has then removed Le Sand and Dreams. There are three beaches, Bay Rouge, Nettle Bay, and one along Sandy Ground, but only the first has public access and even that has fairly limited parking. Between Bay Rouge and Nettle Bay is David's Hole (right) in better days. Most of it has fallen down. It is reached via the access road to the right of the Bay Rouge entrance. When you get there, you'll see the ruins of the Belle Créole Hotel. It was a fine hotel before Hurricane Luis spent a 36 hour vacation on the island in 1995. There has been quite a bit of construction in the area and the reconstruction of this hotel would greatly improve the area. Hotel Mercure is now operational (March 2018) and they bought Layla's and Ma Ti Beach on Nettle Bay. They will be reopened in December 2018.
